Wow, we're into the second week of the year already, how did that happen?  For those members that were able to attend Kim Fuller's session on 'Defining 2014', how are you coming along with those goals?

Kim facilitated a GREAT 'Intimate Conversation' at the beautiful Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica on December 30th, 2013, and it gave us a great kick-start to 2014! We talked about setting goals, and more importantly creating a VISION.  The one thing that I took away from the session was how important it is to not only have goals and write them down, but also detail three steps that you can put into ACTION to reach those goals.  Kim also talked about constant accountability.  Being accountable to someone really can help you reach your goals, whether it's a husband, a girlfriend or a group, accountability is key.

For me, the New Year always includes some kind of diet!  Throughout the year, I was guilty of nibbling on my kids snacks, the candy from those party bags, and other things that haven't been good for me!  So, this year, my GOAL is to get fit and lose weight so that I can have more energy for myself and my family (Kim talked about the importance of defining reasons and whys for your goals!).  My goals are to start exercising 3 times per week, juice 4-5 times per week, and drink at least 1L of water each day.

The three actions that I took to get started were 1) Buy bottles of water for the week for my office (and continue) 2) Set a day each week to buy everything that I need for juicing (and continue), and 3) Call my trainer to re-commit to my fitness program.

Kim, you'll be happy to hear that all three have been done, and I'm on the road to a healthier lifestyle again!  I know we're only in the second week of the year, so if you see me at an event, please feel free to ask me how I'm doing!

Thanks so much for the session Kim, we look forward to having you again!

Educating Your Child In Los Angeles, CA – The Facts, Options & What You Need To Know: Video Highlights!

Dr. Fay Van Der Kar Levinson, Phd, Psychologist and Author of ‘Choosing The Right School for Your Child’ and ‘Secrets to School Success’ imparts her pearls of wisdom.

OMG what a great inaugural event! Educating Your Child – The Facts, Options and What You Need To Know – was held at the Olympic Collection on September 12, 2013, and was a great success! We had a great panel that was full of so much great information and words of wisdom. Thanks again to our panel which included Dr. Fay Van Der Kar-Levinson, Phd (Psychologist and Author of ‘Choosing The Right School for Your Child’ and ‘Secrets To School Success’), JD Rothman (Emmy Award Winner and Author of ‘The Neurotic Parents Guide to College Admissions’), Sandy Eiges (LA School Scout), Sarah Klinger (Assistant Director – Sinai Akiba Pre-school) and Marta Jevenois (Principal – LAUSD Trinity Elementary). We learned so much during the evening and covered all the bases from pre-school to high school and preparing for college. We covered an array of topics including the signs that indicate that a child is ready for pre-school and the critical questions to ask when you’re touring schools at ALL levels to whether early second-language schools are harmful or helpful and the important practical and psychological considerations for parents when choosing a school for their child(ren). Marta Jevenois distributed diagrams and demystified the LAUSD system and encouraged parents to take a look at their local schools, including the Magnet and Charter options in order to make a fully informed decision.

Sandy Eiges – LA School Scout (TM) – She knows her stuff about LA Schools,
call her if you need help!

Marta Jevenois – Principal (LAUSD School) Marta advocated for parents to take a look at your local LAUSD schools including Charter and Magnet Schools to make an educated decision.

Sarah Klinger – Pre-school Director at Sinai Akiba shared a wealth of information
about pre-school aged children and schools!

Thanks again to our sponsors; The Gas Company, Lorie Furie and Learning Care Group, and to our Contributors (that contributed to a very exciting raffle) – Community Playthings, NYX Cosmetics, Giggles n Hugs and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf.

We were also contacted by Education Week who heard about Outstanding Mothers’ Gathering and wanted to hear more about the organization and event. Erica Moore-Burton spoke with them.

We will definitely be hosting another Education Event in 2014 for those of you who missed it!
